We're honored to announce our single-origin coffee IPA collaboration with Fort George Brewery.
The 6.5% India Pale Ale is a masterwork of traceability and beverage craftsmanship. Instead of blending multiple hops or coffees to create the beer’s flavor, Fort George and Coava carefully paired single-origin hops with a single-origin coffee. By whittling down these two major components they were able to fine-tune and focus the interplay of specific flavors.
Fort George chose Amarillo Hops grown by Virgil Gamache Farms in Washington State for their complex aromatics and evened bittering traits. Coava complements the citrus notes of the Amarillo Hops with a specially roasted natural-process coffee from the Kochere Cooperative in Ethiopia. The result is a deliciously balanced and delightfully unique IPA that stands head and shoulders above average coffee beers.
The amazing Fort George family is careful to point out:
Java the Hop is NOT a black, coffee beer. Whole-beans were added to the fermenters within 24 hours of roasting, capturing all of the aroma while leaving the beer a golden orange. Amarillos and coffee merged, hoppy with a subtle taste of chocolate (but not on the dark side). When you raise a pint of Java the Hop to the nose there is absolutely no doubt what you are getting – a coffee IPA.
