Los Naranjos
Mexico
Los Naranjos is an exciting new offering for Coava. We traveled to Southern Oaxaca in early 2020 to find a profile and community that we could grow with. Within the mountainous terrain that stretches up near the Pacific Coast in Southern Oaxaca lies the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla, a land with tropical climate, forests, and fertile soils. Inside this municipality, you'll find the small community of Los Naranjos located in one of the highest points of Sierra Sur de Oaxaca, the mountain range that divides the mountainous areas of Oaxaca from the Pacific Coast. This community has a small population of which the majority is indigenous and speaks the dialect of Pochutla.
This region is known for creating the Pluma Hidalgo varietal which is a mutation of Typica. You can only find widespread cultivation of this variety in Mexico.
