The community of Monserrate, situated on a ridge in the scenic Cordillera Central mountain range in Huila, has been working with Atlas Coffee Importers to provide high quality specialty coffee since 2006. Two years into the relationship, Atlas held the first “Lo Mejor de Monserrate” microlot competition as an opportunity for producers to have their lots scored independently of the rest of the community. Each year, this competition allows for the farmers who put extra care into their work to stand out and earn higher premiums while facilitating long-term buying relationships with attending roasters.
