Karongi Intango

Rwanda

The Intango washing station is located along the eastern bank of Lake Kivu and processes coffees from some 500 smallholder producers in the area. The average Rwandan coffee grower cultivates less than 200 plants, making centralized processing stations such as this very common. Intango is the Kinyarwanda word for “beginning”, and this name represents the sense of community and opportunity that the station looks to cultivate amongst its members. This group has set itself apart through experimentation with honey and natural processing, both uncommon practices in the Rwandan coffee industry.

The Intango washing station offers an exciting opportunity for Coava to not only branch out in sourcing from a new growing region but also establish a relationship with an innovative community. Typically, only the washed process is utilized in Rwanda.

This offering is a blend of two lots that underwent different processing styles, one honey and one natural, both of which are uncommon processing methods in Rwanda. This results in a truly unique flavor expression for the region.

Intango is a coffee we recommend to those looking for something unique and complex that is an exciting new offering from Coava. It showcases layers of stone fruit and caramelized sweetness along with a warm fragrant spice.
