Java Papatong
Indonesia
Like the Papatong (dragonflies) after which this offering is named, coffee production is an integral and inescapable part of the landscape of West Java. This selection is a blend of lots from two producers located in neighboring areas outside Bandung. Pak Sudarman, from Garut, is the leader of the 40-member Kelompok Tani Gunung Kamojang producer group, while Elza Francisca operates a small family farm in Cibeber. Both farmers produce fully washed-process lots that combine for an impressive representation of high quality coffees from Java.
This carefully selected combination of lots from West Java showcases the high level of quality and complexity available from coffees in the region.
Unlike many Indonesian coffees, which undergo the "wet-hulled" process that involves early removal of the coffee parchment, the coffees that make up this offering are processed in the more familiar but less traditionally-Indonesian fully washed style.
Java Papatong is a coffee we recommend to those who love Indonesian coffees or who want to try coffee from a region largely underrepresented in the specialty sector.
