A letter from our leadership team

COVID-19

As a small family-owned business, we are deeply thankful to everyone who has supported us over the last twelve years. From our cafe regulars who’ve become part of our extended family, to our fans and coffee subscribers all over the country, to our wholesale partners who are fearless entrepreneurs literally living their dreams and showcasing absolute excellence in all that they do, and of course, to our hardworking coffee producers without whom none of this would be possible; we're so thankful for your many years of support and partnership and look forward to many, many more.

To our team: we are a family of 50 diverse, tremendously talented, incredible humans who just so happen to also love coffee. Many of you have been with us since the early days, setting about what has been the most incredible journey. All of you have shared your wisdom, your grit, your endless creativity, your love of hospitality and serving others, and best of all, helped to shape our company culture and DNA with your humbled awe and appreciation of this beautiful craft we are so lucky to share with the world.

Like many, we are faced with the unprecedented challenge of operating our small family-owned business given concerns for public safety coupled with the steep and sudden loss of operating income as businesses all over the country shutter or dramatically reduce their footprint. We have agonized over how to protect the livelihoods of our team, our partners, and our coffee producers all over the world. We have made the painful decision to temporarily close all but two of our cafes which will continue on in a very limited capacity.

Our coffee roastery continues to serve our customers at home, grocery stores, & wholesale partners all over the world who find themselves in different stages of this crisis. We're a resilient lot and determined to restore all operations as soon as possible, and with that, bringing our team back together as it was.

The hospitality industry and small businesses, in general, are suffering greatly right now. If you are able, please find a way to support your local businesses. These are the great local groceries that stock products from the local farmers and makers we all love, the wonderful small restaurants and bakeries run by friends and families who do what they love on the thinnest of margins, the independent bookstores (we love you, Powells!), the makers everywhere, the coffee shops and the breweries, the list goes on and on. Your patronage and support during this unprecedented, challenging time will help keep them alive and able to continue doing what we've always loved about them.

We know that these are incredibly difficult times for everyone and for many, it may feel as though we are navigating a great unknown. We do know one thing for certain though— the human spirit is unstoppable— and we will all get through this. Be safe, be kind, be patient, and most of all, take good care of you and yours.
